Ladies of Natural Essences

I am a married mother of four. I have two sons and two daughters. I am currently enrolled in college for an A.S. in Medical Insurance Billing and Coding.

I used to get perms and texturizers. I didnt start untill I was 21 years old, and the only reason that I did it was because my mother-in-law said my hair was "nappy" (I used to hear that alot in highschool school too, but I never let it get to me because those girls also would say my hair was soooo long.) I also used to bleach my hair. I have two daughters, and I have NEVER put any chemicals in their hair. Mind you, both of my daughters have very long hair.It got so bad, that I used to envy my own babies hair! Jesus! I could never figure out why i could grow their hair, but not my own. then my husband gave me a reality check,(which i cashed, lol)when he said" your hair is short,dry, and unhealthy because you keep abusing it with all of that gunk you pile on it ! Cut that sh__ off, and start over again, and this time, don't listen to my bald headed mama!" I am so serious, he really said that to me. I have never heard him insult his mother before, so I knew he was serious. So thanks to his encouragement, I did the big chop on 07/21/2012. I cut my hair down to a 1/2 inch twa. Now I have achieved at least about 7-8 inches of healthy, natural hair. I never thought that my hair would look so healthy, and feel so soft. I had forgotten how nice my natural hair was before.Even though it takes alot more care and maintainance than it used to when I was a natural hair wearing teenager, I love my hair even more! And now, even my mother-in-law says my hair is a nice length, but she still tries to recommend the creamy crack diet. Aint nobody got time for that!!!!!
